Peace and JusticeThe church has a “Peace Pole” with the wording “let peace prevail on earth” in eight languages. They are English, Spanish, Korean, German, Arabic, Urdu, French and Hindi. Several languages represent groups that use Salem. The Korean language is for the Korean Presbyterian Church; Urdu is for the Pakistani Christian Church; Arabic and Hindi for the Islamic groups, and German for our heritage. The Peace Pole was given in memory of Rev. Vernon Kurz, Salem's 6th pastor who was active in peace and justice issues. Each Sunday a person lights the “peace candle” at the beginning of the service and shares where and how peace is present or where they have seen God working in peace and justice or in their lives.
The word "Salem" stands for peace.
During the Lenten season of 2011, Salem participated in an ecumenical discussion with three other churches on looking at the issue of Immigration from a "faith perspective."
In June, 2011 Salem participated in the Denver Gay Pride Parade.
Farmland USA continues to use the back yard for growing vegetables which are distributed to church members and Farmland participants.
Salem is a member of the ecumenical group People of Faith for Social Justice which meets the second Monday of each month at Salem, 7 pm. All are welcome.
