Christian Education
At Salem, education is an on going life process from infancy on. It begins with nursery care and continues through Church School classes, confirmation and adult education. The focus is on learning about the love of God as taught and revealed in the person of Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ. The values of hospitality, appreciation, tolerance, gentleness, peace and the fruits of the Spirit are experienced.
Confirmation Young people reaching the age of 12 and up are invited to participate in confirmation. They study the history, theology and formation of the bible, and the development of the Christian Church. One session is on consideration of World Religions. At the end of the course, students have the opportunity to become full members of Salem.
Adult Education programs are offered each Sunday morning from 8:30 am to 9:30 am. The theme changes periodically. Currently the group is studying the Psalms using the book “Longing to Pray-How the Psalms Teach Us to Pray” by Ellsworth Kalas.
Each Wednesday morning from 10:30 -11:45 am people join with the pastor to discuss, consider and review the scriptures for the upcoming Sunday. Lively discussion on themes and topics evolve. An abbreviated form of “lectio divina” is often utilized.
During special times of the year, like Lent and Advent, special classes are held on selected themes.
